Why choose conductive big bags?

During the filling and emptying of big bags, the material in contact with the bag walls generates static electricity. In a flammable environment, the discharge of static electricity can cause a fire. To prevent such situations, special conductive big bags (known as antistatic bags) are used, designed for use in flammable environments and for flammable materials.

Two main dangers:

• Explosive materials: When explosive materials are filled into jumbo bags, the choice of the bag depends on the minimum ignition energy of the material.
• Flammable environment: A flammable environment can be caused by dust, gases, or vapors. The greatest danger comes from flammable gases and vapors.

Types of big bags

• Type A: They do not have antistatic or conductive properties. Most big bags in the industry are of Type A.
• Type B: Antistatic bags made from fabric that eliminates severe discharges, with a breakdown voltage of less than 6 KV.
• Type C (Conductive bags): These bags are fully conductive, with conductive carbon threads integrated into the fabric. All parts of the bag are connected with conductive internal resistors with a resistance of less than 107 ohms. Type C bags must be grounded during filling and emptying.
• Type D: Used instead of Type C in specific situations. The advantage of these bags is that they do not require grounding, but all personnel and equipment in their vicinity must be grounded.

Conductive film

Big bags with conductive film can be of Type B or Type C. The film used must be conductive.

Marking of conductive big bags

Conductive big bags are marked with an additional yellow label containing relevant information.

Testing of conductive big bags

Testing includes measuring breakdown voltage, the conductivity of the fabric, and the sewn big bag.

Risks of improper use of conductive big bags

If conductive big bags, especially Type C, are not properly grounded, an explosion may occur, leading to financial losses and potential worker injuries. So far, there have been no major damages during the emptying of big bags, but proper use is essential for safety.
